Best Sandwich Ever – Adam Charles

Recipes by Request : a play on what happens during a DJ’s set… combining my love of cooking with the featured guest DJ.

Background Story:

There is a lot of food that I like and wanted to share, but most notably, reinforced from other’s opinions, is a sandwich I make for lunch at work; which became a hit after being noticed by co-workers and, as a result, a top seller among other cooked goods for sale there. It started by a co-worker buying one after peeping it and began to walk around the office showing everyone this sandwich. Afterwards, I was inundated with requests. I figured this would be a good example to share and easy for anyone.

Building your Sandwich:

BREAD:

Whole Grain or Wheat – Dave’s Famous brand is my preferred choice, toasted lightly until golden brown, to crisp the exterior but not compromise inner texture.

Each interior side of the bread is heartily spread with condiments. The bottom layer of bread has cheese on it also.

CONDIMENTS:

Stone ground brown mustard or Horseradish Brown mustard.

OPTIONAL:

Woeber’s Horseradish Sauce to add to a stone ground brown mustard, or substitute if you prefer.

FLAVOR ENHANCERS:

Additionally, Pepperoncini Peppers broken into pieces and heartily placed onto the side of the bread that has condiments but not cheese. Often people will voice their opposition to these being added, however, after trying it, an understanding occurs that acknowledges the important role of this pepper, much like a pickle.

CHEESE:

Tillamook Mild Cheddar is a solid choice that will provide enough cheese flavor to incorporate, yet not overwhelm the taste buds with too much cheesiness. 1 slice, thickness to your choosing, I prefer thin.

MEATS (In order from bottom slice with cheese, up):

I choose Boar’s Head brand that is featured at Kroger, although other quality cold cuts can be substituted. Beginning with 1 or 2 thin slices (depending on how big you want the sandwich) of Turkey Pastrami, a flavor rich option that is tastier than regular turkey.

Next, I add 2 thin slices of smoked ham, followed by 2 more of corned beef, then two of hard salami and finished by two of pepperoni. 5 meats stacked in a conscious manner, artful way (colors shade from light to dark), while still considering each of their flavors and how it will be exposed to the taste buds on the tongue.

Enjoy!
