Ima (Corktown) Lobster Udon – Calico Tribute

Recipes by Request : a play on what happens during a DJ’s set… combining my love of cooking with the featured guest mix DJ.

This week’s tribute to Calico would not have been possible without the help of Angie Linder of Detroit Techno Militia.

Background Story:

“Jon LOVED the Lobster Udon at Ima.  As far as he knew, the broth was made of liquid gold and hand made by a wizard. He could have eaten that every day.  He loved grabbing it with friends. That was very special for him.” -Angie Linder

Personally, I had never been to Ima or tried any type of udon, so I took it upon myself to check out the Corktown location so that I could get a photo of Jon’s favorite dish and try it for myself. The broth really is a masterpiece! The lobster was nicely cooked and overall the flavor combination was great. It is a big bowl, so make sure you come with an appetite! Each of the locations have a different menu, as well.

Check out the menus for the three Ima locations (Corktown, Midtown, Madison Heights) and any other information on their website, here.

In addition, his favorite homecooked meal…

“When it came to homemade food, he loved artichoke hearts prepared by his mom.  When he would head to his parents for dinner, he would call her ahead of time to request that she would make that for him.  She would oil it up with salt and pepper and lots of garlic.  He also loved pickles and pickled veggies.  His aunt would make homemade pickles for him and give them to him every year for Christmas.” – Angie Linder
