Mom’s Spaghetti Sauce – Andrea Kalajian

Recipes by Request : a play on what happens during a DJ’s set… combining my love of cooking with the featured guest DJ.


Background Story:

I chose to feature my mom’s famous spaghetti sauce because it’s one of my favorite comfort foods. It’s flavorful and delicious, and always a hit with anyone who tries it. I’ve tried many other spaghetti sauces and nothing else compares.. the use of spices and herbs is key!



  • 1 large pot
  • 2 cans (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • (30 oz) water
  • 1 can tomato paste (6 oz)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh cracked black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt (or to preference)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 cup dried parsley
  • 6 cloves garlic (cut in half)
  • ½ cup italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 package noodles


  1. Mix ingredients together in the large pot
  2. Cook on medium heat and stir frequently
  3. Bring to a boil for about 5 min
  4. Lower heat and cover with a lid (leave a crack) and simmer for 30 min or until sauce in spoon shows no water around the edges
  5. Prepare noodles of your choice and serve with sauce
  6. Enjoy!
