Thoughts Post Movement Set – Henry Brooks

I was able to catch up with each of the Road to Movement featured DJs (and a few surprise guests) after their Movement sets for a quick lightning round of a few questions. Photos by me!

HENRY BROOKS

Henry Brooks – the techno heavy hitter out of Detroit who’s career is rapidly growing…he laid down a punchy, loud set that no one was ready for but they all needed. I had a few minutes with Henry post-set and these were his thoughts:

detroit.dance: How do you feel post-set?

Henry: I feel great. It’s like a bit of a high right now from the end of my set and interacting with the crowd and playing my favorite stuff.

detroit.dance: How did you prepare for this set?

Henry: I planned my intro track and the track after that. Otherwise I just go with different tracks and playlists based on mood and energy levels. I don’t plan out an entire set.

detroit.dance: What does Movement mean to you?

Henry: Movement is about celebrating the origin and birthplace of techno every year, with people gathering from all over the world to experience the energy and beauty of Detroit.

detroit.dance: You are one of the young pioneers of the techno sound right now, how does that make you feel and what motivates you to keep pushing forward?

Henry: It makes me feel really good. I’m motivated by making people dance to the music that I love. I love seeing the energy exchange with the crowd.

detroit.dance: Your career has been growing rapidly, recently playing shows with Charlotte de Witte and her crew – what advice do you have for other DJs trying to grow their own careers and network?

Henry: First and foremost, stay true to you and what you want to play, and the right people will pick up on that. Be sure to market yourself and get your name out there.

Stay tuned for the next several featured artists and their thoughts post-set!
